Marine collagen

  • What nature nurtures, your skin recognizes.

The sea is in constant motion, yet it maintains its order. Within its organisms, structures emerge that protect, connect, and provide resilience. Marine collagen draws upon this natural architecture—as a nourishing companion for skin and hair when firmness, moisture, and suppleness begin to fade.

  • Origin

Marine collagen comprises various active ingredients of marine origin. Classic marine collagen is derived from fish components, while vegan alternatives are created through the biotechnological fermentation of marine microorganisms. Both variants utilize the structural properties of marine proteins or peptides. At BARAU, we select the specific form to suit each formulation: for supple, nourished skin and for hair that requires protection, moisture, and renewed resilience.

  • How it works

In cosmetics, so-called marine collagen is used from various sources – traditionally from fish skin (animal-based), but increasingly today also as a vegan alternative obtained through biotechnological processes from marine ferments.

  • Why we use it at BARAU

At BARAU by Bibi, we use both versions purposefully & consciously:
    – Vegan marine collagen in our solid hair care products (available soon!) – for strong, protected hair.
    – Animal-derived marine collagen in the Mild Cream – for firm, nourished skin with more elasticity.

Description

Collagen is a structural protein and a main component of our connective tissue. It gives the skin tension, elasticity, and firmness. In cosmetics, so-called marine collagen is used from various sources – traditionally from fish skin (animal-based), but today increasingly also as a vegan alternative obtained through biotechnological processes from marine ferments.

At BARAU by Bibi, we use both variants purposefully & consciously:

  • Vegan marine collagen in our solid hair cosmetics (available soon!) – for strong, protected hair.
  • Animal-based marine collagen in our Mild Cream – for firm, nourished skin with more elasticity.

Difference: Vegan vs. animal-based marine collagen

Vegan marine collagen:

→ Produced from fermented microorganisms of marine origin (e.g., algal bacteria)

→ Suitable for all skin & hair types

→ Skin-identical peptides, particularly moisturizing & protective

Animal-based marine collagen:

→ Obtained from fish skin or fish bones

→ Rich in glycine, proline & hydroxyproline – for firm, regenerated skin

→ Particularly well absorbed by the skin

SKIN BENEFITS

Moisture-retaining: Reduces transepidermal water loss and improves elasticity.

Firming: Supports skin structure when firmness declines.

Regenerating: Promotes cell renewal and skin barrier function.

Protecting: Forms a fine film on skin & hair without weighing it down.

Repairing: Particularly helpful in hair care against dry and brittle hair ends as well as structural loss in the hair.

EFFECTS & SKIN CONCERNS

Mature skin & stressed hair: Collagen restores firmness & resilience.
Dry & dull skin: Provides moisture and improves texture.
Hair protection & volume: In shampoos, vegan collagen ensures noticeable strengthening.

SPECIAL FEATURES COMPARED TO OTHER OILS

Synthetic tightening gels work on the surface – collagen works deep down.

Plastic-based film formers seal the skin – collagen strengthens from within.

Lower-quality animal collagen is absorbed less effectively – we rely on high-purity marine types & vegan ferments.

SUITABLE FOR

✔ Mature, dry, tired, or structurally damaged skin

✔ Dull, fine, or stressed hair

✔ Skin in need of care that is looking for new elasticity
